LED Screen Encourages Shoppers to Look Up in Beijing

“The Place,” as it’s called in Beijing, is one of the region’s biggest retail developments. But consumers have the opportunity to enjoy something other than shopping if they look up to see the giant screen made of LED lights installed over their heads. The Sky Screen, designed by Jeremy Railton, president of Entertainment Design Corporation, is suspended six stories high (80 feet) above a plaza between two retail centers. At 250 meters long and 30 meters wide, Railton calls the Sky Screen an “arena in the air” for good reason, as it boasts loads of entertainment options. Besides spectacular light shows that have been designed specifically for the screen using thousands of color-changing LED lights, the screen can also display images in film or TV format, play giant video games, broadcast live and televised events, advertise and even allow visitors to upload photos of themselves or their friends. In the making of Sky Screen, five individual displays were fused together to create one giant screen; they can work in conjunction with one another, or separately for more versatility and display options. The result is a beautiful piece of LED art where you’d least expect it—right over your head.

Thanks to China Daily and LEDs Magazine for the images.
